Dinner Cruise on Lake Mead

Tours of Hoover Dam

We will start with an afternoon trip out of Las Vegas to the magnificent Hoover Dam where we will tour the depths of the dam including the massive turbines that power much of the southwest.  Along the way, Landmark Chief Historian, Bill Potter will explain the extraordinary story of the son of a Quaker blacksmith who achieved international success as a mining engineer and worldwide gratitude as “The Great Humanitarian” by feeding millions in war-torn Europe during and after World War I – Herbert Hoover.  An evening dinner cruise on the paddle-wheeler Desert Princess is the perfect way to get to know your fellow rafters a bit and enjoy the Hoover Dam from a unique perspective before returning to Las Vegas for the night.  The following morning you are off on a scenic flight to the Bar 10 guest ranch on the rim of the Grand Canyon on the legendary Arizona strip.  Horseback riding, horseshoe pitching, skeet shooting, and other activities are available for our fun-filled afternoon at the Bar 10. In the evening, Dr. Jim Johnson, Chief Academic Officer and Associate Professor of Apologetics at Institute of Creation Research will get us oriented in the history and ecology of the Grand Canyon to give us a head start in understanding the evidences of a young earth we will see throughout the trip. Overnight accommodation options at the Bar 10 include sleeping in a Conestoga covered wagon, outside under a canopy of stars on the beautiful deck or indoors in the lodge bunk rooms.

The next morning, an exhilarating helicopter ride will whisk us to the Colorado River where we board our rafts and embark down the lower 95 miles of Grand Canyon for two and a half days. Just above Lake Mead, we will transition to a jet boat for the the last few miles of flat water and disembark where our box lunch is awaiting aboard an air-conditioned motor coach for the return to Las Vegas, arriving by 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 7.
